Week 42 – Waiting for the night

week-42

The light was disappearing fast, one last chance, it was Sunday, again, and here I was, Project 52ing…

This wee angel seemed to waiting and watching, looking skyward… why?

Who knows… as I stood there, I thought, they’re waiting for the night… and soon it was to arrive, we stood there watching it head down the valley, rolling out the blanket of darkness.

Week 41 – Ednam House Hotel

week-41

The Ednam House Hotel

Sitting on the banks of the River Tweed, an ideal spot to relax and watch a wee bit of famous Tweed fishing.

I dashed out of the house when I saw the change in the weather, I made it to the other side of the river, only to take 5 images, before the sun descended behind the clouds, bringing the grey darkness to the town once more.

I just managed to out fool the sun on this occasion.

Week 40 – Coos

week real-40

Coos

As I was out trying to get another landscape, these guys decided to come over and have a look, and pass on a couple of opinions… but hey, we all know what cows are like.

Anyway, as they crowded round, I saw the potential immediately… snap… snap… say cheese, or milk?

I think we both went away happier…

Week 39 – Morning mist

week-39

Early morning mist holding back the silhouettes at the edge of Bowmount forest.

A very foggy morning around Kelso, saw me heading up towards Bowmount forest, to grab a few images before our sun burned off the moisture.

Loved the eeriness as the line of trees became more visible, as the mist receded, giving back the trees to the daylight.

Thanks

Week 38 – Kirkhope Tower

week-38

Kirkhope Tower just outside Ettrickbridge near Selkirk, is steeped in Border Reiver history.

Originally constructed in the 16th century, this peel tower was brought back from near ruin, and again inhabited from 1996.

Headed up to take an image of this lovely peel tower while the sun was stretching its last light over the Border hills.

A short walk from the road, and I made it down to below the tower, to emphasise the towers location in amongst the trees, heather and the hills.

Week 37 – 4 seasons in one day!

week-37

Mist, rain, wind in the morning, followed by a glorious afternoon.
Still loads of bales out in the fields, saw these drying out in the sun at Bonjedward, jumped into the field with them, to capture the scene.
You can see the Waterloo monument watching from the top of Peniel Heugh in the background.Waited for that one wee cloud to go…Did he?
Did he nowt…Β

Week 36 – Brotherstone Stones

week-36

The standing stones on Brotherstone Hill.

Taken as the sun went down, the rich afterglow, lighting up the sky and in the distance, you can see the Eildon Hills.

These stones date back to megalithic times, and mark the boundary between the old Border counties of Roxburghshire and Berwickshire.

Still standing guard, upon this hill, after all these years.

Take a bow gents…

Week 35 – Black Hill bales

week-35

Black Hill bales, near Earlston

At the end of another harvest day.
The bales gathered, huddled together, ready for uplift in the morning.

Set against the backdrop of Black Hill, just outside Earlston, as the sun casts it’s gentle glow at the end of another summers day.

Week 34 – The Tree

week-34

High on Sweethope Hill, just outside Kelso, looking south over my Borderland on a sunny, bright evening.

I took this on my camera, fitted with an IR (infrared) filter attached. Β This helps it ‘see’ only the IR end of the light spectrum.

I then converted this on my computer, to the Black & White image you see before you.

As the filter is so dark, the length of exposure time is greater, hence the movement of the leaves on the tree.

It was a very, very windy evening anyway.

(I should use it more, as I love IR photography πŸ™‚ )

Week 33 – The Perseids fairy

week-33

While out trying to get images of the Perseids meteor shower, at Smailholm Tower, near Kelso, I caught this amazing phenomenon.

I was taking 30 second exposures of the night sky, underneath Smailholm Tower, and trying to catch a meteor against the Milky Way.

I had taken a few random images, and changed viewpoint.

To my astonishment, when reviewing the images on the back of my camera, I noticed this!

I called in at a local expert on the way home, for them to tell me that this was the rare Meteor ‘fairies’ at work.

This could have been one of the very first time they’ve been caught on camera!
